What You Need to Know

PA Camps are youth leadership development camps designed to teach 5th-12th grade students leadership and communication skills with the hopes they can return to their schools and communities and implement programs that have a positive impact on their lives and the lives of the community at large.

Sleeping quarters: Campers are separated by sex in separate buildings for sleeping / showering in the large group facility in Fontainebleau State Park near the cabins on the lake. Each bunk room has rows of bunk beds for campers to select their bed upon arrival.

Staff / Counselors (Interns): Our Camper to Staff ratio is 10:1 to ensure a positive and safe experience for all campers. The majority of PA Staff (all of PA Junior  Staff) are St. Tammany Parish School Board teachers and paraprofessionals who have all had a background check by the school board and are certified in CPR and First Aid. Our camp counselors, known as Interns, are high school students who have attended a minimum of two years of PA Camp and have participated in an interview and audition process, as well as several months of Intern training.

What We Do at PA Camp

  • Campers are separated into small groups led by highly trained high school facilitators called Interns

  • Interns then instruct the campers to participate in many challenging and thought-provoking activities. Covering topics such as leadership, drugs and alcohol, stress, peer pressure, and much more

  • An average of 2 workshops per day - presented by inspiring St. Tammany Parish locals

  • Previous workshop presenters: John Arsenaux (Families Helping Families), Ashlee Stokes (Community Leader), Joey Roberts (Exec. Director of YMCA), and many more

  • Camp-wide activities (dances, comedy night, water slide, etc.)

  • And much more!

Testimonials

"My son has never had a positive camp experience until your camp. When we picked him up today he had a huge smile on his face. He couldn't stop talking about all the fun he had. He even said something about how he felt like people really liked hm. I can't thank you all enough for helping him get his confidence back. Thank you!" ~Mom of a PA 2022 Camper

"PA Camp is an absolutely wonderful, empowering, community and friendship based volunteering organization and camp. My daughter has made some incredible and GREAT friends while there, and has learned so many positive skills to help her make the best and most incredible choices, especially when faced with any adversity. Between camp itself, and the Troupe group, she has obtained so many skills for current life and how to navigate the future in a positive way. They help great kids to be the best versions of themselves for BOTH themselves and others!" ~Aleta D., Mom of a 3rd year camper (2021, 2022, 2023)

"I wanted to thank you for the amazing time my son had at camp this week! He initially did not want to attend, but I gave him a push and now he can't wait to go back next summer. He was visibly disappointed that camp came to an end yesterday. My son does not say much and doesn't show a lot of emotion, but he was truly emotional on his way home and could not stop letting me know how much he enjoyed himself and how much he learned on this trip. He thanked me over and over again for making him attend, otherwise he would have missed out on this opportunity and making the connections he made with the other campers and the interns...Please thank the interns for doing such an amazing job with these kids!" ~ Mom of a PA 2021 Camper
